Merchant services for Michigan businesses

Simple handles merchant accounts, payments and point of sale for operators running more than one location in Michigan, whether that is three stores in one metro or eleven spread from Marquette to Monroe. Every location processes at the same flat 2.19% card-present rate with no per-transaction fee, plans are $99 a month per location, and the company is headquartered in Troy.

One rate at every location, no volume negotiation

Groups usually discover their pricing is uneven only when they compare statements side by side. The store that opened in 2016 is on one schedule, the two acquired from a retiring owner are on another, and the newest one got whatever the rep offered that quarter. Nobody set out to run four different cost structures. It just accumulated.

Our rate does not move with volume, tenure or negotiation. Location eleven pays 2.19% card-present and 2.79% card-not-present, exactly what location one pays. That makes per-store profitability comparable without normalizing for payment costs first, and it removes the annual ritual of asking a processor for a better deal on your own money.

If you operate a single site, the merchant services overview is the better starting point, and businesses in the Detroit area switching from an existing processor should read merchant services in Detroit and metro Detroit for how the underwriting and cutover go.

Running eleven locations without eleven systems

The operational problem in a multi-site group is never a single sale. It is consistency. A price change has to reach every register the same day. A new item has to appear with the right tax treatment and the right modifier list everywhere it is sold. A district manager covering the west side needs to see six stores in one view without being handed six logins.

The catalog is managed centrally and pushed to the locations you pick, with overrides where a site genuinely prices differently. Staff carry one profile with per-site permissions, so a floating assistant manager between Novi, Brighton and Ann Arbor clocks in anywhere and reports once. See store management, register management and scheduling for how those are set up.

Reporting works both directions. Ownership gets consolidated sales, labor and margin across the group, and each store gets its own numbers without seeing anyone else's. That makes the honest comparisons possible: why the Kalamazoo store's basket is $6 higher than Portage's, whether the Traverse City site's labor percentage is a staffing problem or a July problem, which SKUs move downstate and die up north. The detail is on reports and analysis and inventory.

    Franchise groups and expanding operators

Franchise economics make payment cost unusually visible. Royalty and marketing fees are calculated on gross sales, so the operator absorbs them regardless, and processing is one of the few line items a franchisee can actually influence. Forty-one basis points and a dime per ticket is not a rounding error when it applies to every store in a twelve-unit group.

The structures we see across Michigan vary and all of them work here: a franchisee holding each store in its own LLC and needing separate accounts with combined visibility; a family group running unrelated concepts under one ownership umbrella; an operator buying out a retiring owner and folding two existing stores into a working system; and a brand adding a site a year, where a new location has to open with the catalog, roles and reporting already inherited from the others.

Growth is where a payments relationship either helps or gets in the way. Adding a location should be an application and a hardware order, not a renegotiation, a new contract term and a fresh round of pricing. Because there is no term commitment on any location, closing or selling one is not a penalty either. If you want the rate comparison across a whole group before talking to anyone, run the numbers on the pricing page or read the fee breakdown on lowest credit card processing rate. Newer operators may want our guide to what merchant services actually include first.

    Frequently asked questions

It depends on how the business is structured. Locations under one legal entity can share an account with separate reporting per site. Locations held in separate LLCs, which is common for franchisees, each underwrite on their own entity. Either way the plan price is per location and the 2.19% card-present rate is identical across all of them.

Yes. Each franchisee keeps their own account, their own deposits and their own liability, while the franchisor gets rolled-up reporting across participating stores. A franchisee in Grand Rapids and one in Sterling Heights each control their own money and still report into the same view.

Items, prices, categories, modifiers and tax settings are managed centrally and pushed to whichever locations you choose, so a statewide price change is one edit instead of eleven. Individual sites can be allowed to override specific items where local pricing genuinely differs.

Yes. An employee has one profile with permissions per site, so someone covering shifts in both Novi and Ann Arbor clocks in at either without a duplicate record, and their hours and sales roll into one report. Managers only see the locations you grant them.

A new site inherits your existing catalog, roles and settings, so it opens configured rather than blank. Underwriting for the new entity or address runs while the buildout is happening, and hardware ships to the site preloaded. Groups adding two or three stores a year typically have the account side done well before the certificate of occupancy.
